Day 1 - All Things Made by Him, From the Beginning to Today | February Devotional in the Gospel of John

Welcome to February 2020!

I invite you to join with the New Covenant Church family and friends in this devotional through the Gospel of John. Our desire is to draw closer to the Lord and "see well" (faith) which allows us to experience more of God's power. If you keep notes or a journal, for each day, write down your "Reflection Question" (what you've discovered) and "Action Items" (what you will do) from the devotional.

This reading is designed to be a part your devotion practice. Daily posts will be available by 5:00am EST.

Subscribe to this blog to receive devotions by email each morning. Also share it with others.

TODAY'S LESSON

John 1:1-3, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

The words “in the beginning” appear in the first verse of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. What is remarkable about this Scripture is this: We learn that Jesus is greater than creation itself. He is greater because He is God, He is God the Son, and He is God the Creator.

“All things were made through him.” The important message here is that anything God has created, God can change, fix, and restore. Apple and Samsung make great products, but you don’t send something from Samsung to Apple for repair.

In our world, people consistently make the mistake of looking to sources other than God for guidance, repair, and encouragement. This Scripture makes it abundantly clear the truth that Jesus Christ is much, MUCH more than we think.

The next verse is where we want to land today: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)

Our lives are made better by His light.

Reflection question:  In what areas do you need to look to Christ as your source more than looking at created things?

  2. I think one of the greatest problems is that we tend to look at God "the creator of all" like we do Samsung or Apple. We want a ready fix...they've done on the work, the professional, that's what you are being paid for...just give me the answer, and fix it. And if that service isn't fast enough or produces when we want it to, we just look for another service to meet our needs, after all...it's all about us! Well since God-Jesus-Holy Spirit does not operate in that manner, most will look to their own understanding or an earthly resolution that we can "reach out and touch". It reminds me of an old song by Dionne Warwick - Reach out and touch somebodies hand, make this world a better place.. if you can. So we touch others, but most times, it without God's instructions... so it's then not His light, but man's light we reach for. So God must continuously remind us that our completeness is not in man or a device, but in Him.
