The Best Freedom

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

There are two very powerful forces at work in this world and in your life. The first force or "bad law" is what the Apostle Paul called the "law of sin and death."

Like gravity, the law of sin and death, introduced into the earth by Adam, affects everyone. This is a law, or principle, that no one can escape or overcome in one's own strength. Even "nice" people have sinned and experienced a spiritual death.

The second powerful force or "good law" at work in the earth is what the Apostle Paul called "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ." This force, power, or principle is something that God had to introduce into the earth through Jesus Christ to counteract the law of sin and death.

As the wording suggests, this law is all about life. It's all about Jesus Christ. It's all about freedom. It is a kind of freedom for a person's spirit, soul and body are that can come no other way.

Who Receives Your Finest?

Leviticus 2:1 When anyone brings a grain offering to the LORD, their offering is to be of the finest flour.
v. 4 If you bring a grain offering baked in an oven, it is to consist of the finest flour:
v. 5 If your grain offering is prepared on a griddle, it is to be made of the finest flour mixed with oil, and without yeast.

Leviticus 3:1 If your offering is a fellowship offering…you are to present before the LORD an animal without defect.

Exodus 25:2, Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering.

2 Corinthians 9:7, So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

People are often misinformed about offerings and sacrifices. An offering is not a "leftover" or whatever you may have on hand at the time of giving. A sacrifice is not forcing yourself to give something that you would not otherwise give.

An offering to the Lord is a pre-planned participation in His plan and purpose. The idea is to bring God your "finest" or best. A sacrifice is a substantial offering of something personally important made willingly and joyfully.

People who love the Lord in "deed and truth" always strive to honor Him with the best of their time, treasure and talents. How can we do anything less for our Father, Creator, Savior, and Giver of life?

Participation with God's purposes brings tremendous blessing and inward satisfaction!

The Problem with "Nice" People

Matthew 21:28 “What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ 29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. 30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered.

The moral to this story is a lesson for us to remember: Always end up at the right place.

The world, and the church, is full of people who make promises and commitments, but who end up doing nothing. Like the second son in this story, "nice" people often want to outwardly impress, yet their words and commitments are empty. Like the first son, it is better for people to be honest, and then willing to change when God brings conviction.

We have enough "nice" people who do nothing. I'd rather deal with an honest "hard-headed" person who does not deceive himself, changes his heart, and ends up at the right place.

Your "Set Time" of Opportunity Has Come!

Psalm 102:13 You will arise and have mercy on Zion; For the time to favor her, Yes, the set time, has come.

The Vines Expository Dictionary defines "mercy" in this way: "Mercy is the outward manifestation of compassion; it assumes need on the part of him who receives it, and resources adequate to meet the need on the part of him who shows it."

God's mercy is not only for people who make mistakes. Mercy is for people who want to help and serve others. The biblical Hebrew and Greek words for "time" carry the idea of "opportunity" or a "set time." (As in Ephesians 5:16)

According to Vines, mercy works in two directions. 1) God comes to the aid of people in need. 2) God provides resources for people who show mercy and want to help others.

Through mercy what begins as trouble or difficulty becomes the "set time" for God and merciful people to bring help and new opportunities!

This is what Joseph experienced after being sold into slavery, or jailed after being falsely accused. (Gen. 39:20-23) Through God's mercy, his "set time" transformed his trouble and made him the Prime Minister of Egypt and put him in position to provide mercy, and provision, for his whole family when famine came.

This is what Jesus did for us when we were lost and in sin: Ephesians 2:4-5 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

In the midst of your trouble, choices, or willingness to help others, God's mercy will provide a "set time" of favor and opportunity. Expect it!

There are two types of rocks: 1. There are small man-made rocks, like Peter (whose name meant "small rock"). 2. And there are big God-made rocks like Jesus and the firm foundation He laid.

We all need people in our lives who love us and are reliable. However, we cannot build on people alone. Jesus loved Peter, warts and all, but he was too small of a rock to build upon. Jesus spoke of another rock on which He would build. He called it "This rock."

"This rock"is the "big rock" of knowledge and relationship with God through Christ. when you build your life, your ministry, and your career on Christ and Kingdom principles, your success will never be overcome by the forces of evil or darkness.

You are built to win!

Be Still. Stop all the Noise. Give God Praise Now!

Psalm 46:9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

David understood God in many profound ways. He wrote Psalms, or songs, that expressed God's nature, works, and power.

When God stops war, especially wars in your life, as He did for David, God breaks the ability of your enemy. Notice the wording, "He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two." We know from Jesus' and Paul's teachings that our enemies are not people, but unseen forces from the natural to the demonic. God gives us victory and assurance of peace!

Then He says, "Be still, and know that I am God." One interpretation of this phrase states, "I am your leader. Stop all this noise."

After God has shown Himself faithful in your life; after He has broken the forces that tried to break you; it's time to "stop the noise" of complaining, making excuses and allowing other voices to influence you more than God!

Be still. Stop all the noise. Give God praise now!

Dear New Covenant Family & Friends,

Today Willowbrook Christian Academy concludes a fruitful journey begun 15 years ago. Willowbrook served the Indianapolis Community as the preschool and daycare ministry of New Covenant Church.

We thank God and celebrate the hundreds of the children who were educated and received a Christ-centered foundation through our excellent program. We appreciate the many staff members who were employed by us and contributed to the blessing and success of our young students. Our original group of students are now nearing adulthood.

Mrs. Hudson and I would like to express our appreciation to our dedicated staff and dear friends: Ms. April Hewlett (13 years), Mrs. Alberta Westbrook (10 years), Mrs. Andranda Cooper. (7 years), and Ms. Theresa Mitchell (1 year). No one knows more than Patricia and I how we feel about our staff members as well as value the time and passion each has invested in children served by Willowbrook Academy! We labored in love to provide a loving, Christ-centered learning experience to children and their families.

Keep our staff-family, children and parents in your prayers as they move forward in their lives, education, and careers. When it is all said and done, we know that God is faithful and He cares for all of us!

The Unusual Power of Prayer & Fasting

Matthew 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

"Fasting confirms our utter dependence upon God by finding in Him a source of sustenance beyond food." (Dallas Willard)

Jesus' disciples could not help a child that was brought to them. They BELIEVED that they could help the child, but were unable to do so. They asked Jesus, “Why could we not cast it out?” Jesus said, "Because of your unbelief."

Wait a minute! If the disciples had a problem with unbelief, why did they try to cast out the demon?

Unbelief is not only a lack of belief or lack of faith. Unbelief is also a lack of preparation.

Prayer & fasting helps "this kind" to "go out." I don't think Jesus was talking about "this kind" of demon (even though some Bible versions indicate this). I think He is talking about "this kind" power and presence of God going forth from (or out of) those who prepare themselves to minister to people. The real subject of this text is not demons, but faith in God.

Regardless of your interpretation, it is clear that prayer and fasting help us go to a higher level of functioning by faith. Part of that higher level comes from not placing our usual emphasis on food and things natural/earthly. Faith is more than believing. Faith is acting on the Word of God.

Prayer is the most important spiritual activity we take and fasting enhances that activity.

Join the New Covenant Church family in prayer and fasting January 17-19, 2012. Skip at least one meal per day and alter your routines to change your focus and make more time for prayer.

Dr. King: A Legacy of Courage and Conviction

Today we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King on the national holiday established in his honor.

Too often, I find that when some people discuss the legacy of Dr. King, they are quick to point out his flaws and failings. Others seem to embrace his teachings and sayings, but only in a highly selective fashion. Yet others try to ignore his work and legacy altogether.

It is obvious to many of us today that Dr. King was a social prophet and a man of great courage and conviction. As a Christian minister, it is appropriate that such a man would have been responsible for leading one of the greatest movements in the 20th Century. It takes a Christian to have the type of compassion and sense of mission that Dr. King possessed. Christ's mission was glorified though his work.

Below are a series of quotes from Dr. King that I trust will inspire you as they have inspired me:

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?" ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

What is Your Name? (Talk to the Guy With the Limp)

Genesis 32:26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Jacob had a very unusual encounter with God through His angel. This encounter was a turning point in his life spiritually and physically.

Jacob had been known as a surplanter and a deceiver. This encounter would bring out the true nature of Jacob. His name literally meant, "One who takes the heel." This is in reference to his birth in which his twin brother Esau came out of his mother's womb first, followed by Jacob who had hold of Esau's heel.

It was in Jacob's nature to contend and strive for that which he wanted. This is why God said, "Jacob I have loved, Esau I have hated." (Genesis 25:21-34). Esau did not care about his birthright. Jacob cared deeply about reaching for the best. This always pleases God. Reaching for, and wrestling with, God left Jacob with his hip out of socket, and a limp.

When the angel (or God) asked him, "What is your name?" Jacob said, "My name is, 'Reach for the best and don't let go!'" God then changed his name to "Israel" meaning, "Prince."

This encounter became a model for all of God's people, when Nahum prophesied, "For the LORD will restore the excellence of Jacob…" (Nah 2:2)

What is your name? I'm not talking about the name your mother and father gave you. I'm not talking about the name your bad habits or "lesser self" have given you.

What is the name of your redeemed, blood-washed, "best self" after encountering God?

Flexible Purpose and Inflexible Wineskins

Matthew 9:16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

New cloth (not yet shrunken by washing) and old cloth should not be sewn together. New wine (unfermented grape juice) should not be put into old, inflexible containers.

Understanding conditions is important. Being flexible and willing to change and adapt throughout life is also important. The cloths represented conditions and the new wine/wineskins represented change and flexibility/inflexibility.

The science and logic behind what Jesus said is easy to understand. What is more difficult is to pay attention to the changing conditions and dynamics of our lives and activities. In context, Jesus talked about conditions in His day in which religious leaders, like the Pharisees, who resisted Christ and the then-emerging Kingdom of God. Like old stiff wineskin containers, their inflexibility to the expanding "new wine" of God's purpose was unacceptable.

Today, we must evaluate our conditions, and our hearts, to determine what things, if any, may prevent us from being containers of "new wine" –– in whatever ways this may be applicable to our lives.

Meet Opportunities With Faith, Not Fear

Matthew 8:26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Jesus woke up to do something that His disciples should have done. Jesus was resting in the boat after a long day of ministry.

A sudden storm made the disciples afraid. They allowed their fear to interfere with their faith. Because of this, Jesus called His own disciples' faith "little." He expected much more from men who had been trained "on the job."

When storms come, or big opportunities are presented, let your faith rise, not your fear.

The Greatest Faith Jesus Encountered

Matt 8:5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” 7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” 8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.... 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.

Jesus marveled at the faith of an unnamed Roman military officer. Why? What was so special about this man and his faith in Christ?

This man understood something that not even Jesus' disciples or the Jewish leaders comprehended. The centurion, who was concerned about his sick servant, realized that Jesus had the authority to act without being personally present. He understood the power of delegated authority.

He said to Jesus: "Don't bother coming all the way over to my house, just say the word, and my servant will be healed." This was the greatest faith that Jesus had seen at that time.

We have to learn to separate our circumstances, time and distance from what God can do. Things don't have to "line up" for God to work. Jesus' authority is supernatural and not bound by the natural order. He does work in the midst of our circumstances, but don't let circumstance cloud your faith.

Like that centurion, let Jesus to "say the word" in your heart and through the Scriptures and the other part of what He said also becomes a reality: "Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.”

The Lord Will Provide

NOTE: Today’s scripture reading and blog post is much longer than usual. I pray that you take the time to read the Scripture text as well as my thoughts and insights that follow.

Genesis 22:1-14:

1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”

6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”

8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together. 9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11 But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”

I never cease to be blessed and amazed at how the Scriptures, the Word of God, brings comfort and hope!

Thankfully, severe challenges in life are not an everyday occurrence. Abraham faced an almost unimaginable challenge. He was asked to offer up his only son, Isaac, as a sacrifice.

Most everything we have is not beyond our ability to give up. But there are some things, and especially some people, that we could hardly imagine letting go. This is especially true for people and purposes we have poured our lives and our faith into. Value can be measured by our investment of time and energy. We can make no greater investment than into the lives of people. For Abraham, there could be nothing of greater value than his own son, “whom you love,” God said. He asked Abraham to make a monumental choice!

Abraham knew that it was not possible for God to take away, forever, that which he both promised and provided in Isaac. Hebrews 11:19 says that Abraham, by faith, had already received his son back from the dead, if he were sacrificed. Nevertheless, this was still a great trial for Abraham.

A question asked by Isaac went to the heart of Abraham's challenge: Abraham's answer to his son's question revealed the depth of his faith and confidence in God.

Isaac saw the fire, the altar, and the knife in his father's hand. He knew from experience that all the elements were present for a sacrifice to be made, so Isaac asked the question, “Daddy, Where is the sacrifice?”

Abraham's answer to this question is always your answer––and my answer.

Abraham's answer was both a prophecy of our Savior Jesus Christ and a reminder to us of God's provision at every turn in life. This is especially true when things seem to turn for the worse and it looks like you're losing something that you labored in love to birth.

Abraham said, “The Lord will provide for himself a lamb as an offering.” Abraham did not tell Isaac what he would do. He told his son what the Lord would do.

Being in a place where we can only trust God is not a comfortable place. It is an uncomfortable place because we usually rely on ourselves, even when we say that we are “trusting in the Lord.” Abraham was in a place in which he absolutely had to trust God! He trusted God even to the moment when he raised the knife in preparation to lower it in sacrificing his only son. It took an angel of the Lord to call to him and prevent him from doing so. God provided the sacrifice in the form of a ram caught in the thick brush by its horns. It is not known if the ram had always been there and Abraham did not notice it, or if it supernaturally appeared on cue.

In this test, Abraham proved that his loyalty to God was greater than his sense of ownership. He also proved to himself that he could trust God as his Owner and Provider. God acknowledged as much by saying to him, "Now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

Our lesson from this ancient story is this: Every time and place where you gave up, or were willing to give up, something or someone most precious to you, becomes a new place of "The-LORD-Will-Provide" (Jehovah-Jireh) in your life. In God's plan, you never give up something for nothing. His provision is your supply. Your confidence in His provision is your peace and joy. Your value and provision increases every time you trust God!

Abraham’s place of impending loss became his greatest gain. He was the one who named that place, “Jehovah-Jireh,” "The Lord will Provide."

Name your place.

Share Mercy. Receive Mercy.

Matthew 5:7, Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Mercy is one of the greatest blessings in life! When you realize that you have come short or failed to deliver, it is mercy that you need.

On those occasions when we have sinned or made mistakes, we don't demand justice. We ask for mercy.

More importantly, when we have the opportunity to come down hard on someone else, we have only to consider these words from Jesus and remember that mercy is a gift that is both shared and received.

Be sure that you are making mercy "deposits," so that you will be able to "withdraw" mercy when you need it.

And you and I will most certainly need mercy, sooner or later (Probably sooner!)

Pure Heart. See God.

A pure heart is the path to clarity. Of all the things in life that we want to see and experience, it is most important to see God.

When you see God, you see the true nature of everything and everyone around you.

2012: A Year of Opportunity & Poured Out Blessings!

2012 is underway! From one perspective, January 1 was just another day. From another perspective, the beginning of a new year provides an opportunity to re-focus on current and new priorities. On Sunday, January 1, I stood before our congregation for the 30th year to share from my heart and the heart of God for the new year.

Take Responsibility for Your Days in 2012

Psalms 90:12, So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

We can all agree that it is not wise to make New Year's resolutions in a half-hearted manner. In fact, if you are not faithful and committed generally, it's an exercise in futility to make resolutions/commitments for the entire year.

I think a better approach is to look at life from the viewpoint of doing God's will, being fruitful in present commitments, and using time as an opportunity to take bold action and serve others.

We don't want to fall into a mundane pattern of only working, eating, sleeping, watching, and recreating. This does not require any specific ordering of our days. In this scenario, we only have to "show up" at the time provided for us or take involuntary action.

When we number our days, we are taking responsibility for the greatest non-renewable resource that God has given us, TIME. When we number our days, we are looking to do something beyond the ordinary, even though the ordinary is important.

It doesn't take a lot of wisdom to simply show up. It takes wisdom to forge a path and become men and women of purpose.

Go get your calendar and begin to make your days in 2012 more fruitful and purposeful than your days in 2011! When you begin, God's wisdom will fill your heart.

A New Attitude for a New Year

Ephesians 4:22 Throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception. 23 Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. 24 You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God's likeness – righteous, holy, and true.

As believers in Christ, we need to continue to "throw off" bad attitudes and behaviors whenever necessary. We don't want to let "stuff" from our "former way of life" creep back in.

A lot of what we see wrong in others is only the "rot" of our own poor attitude. Paul said, "There must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes." We need a revival for our thoughts and attitudes!

When your thoughts and attitudes change, you change. This change is powered by the new nature that Christ provided for us, and this "real you" is your best person. The old saying is true, "Your attitude determines your altitude."

Let the new year signal the emergence of a new attitude.

We are looking forward to a wonderful time this weekend! On Saturday, December 17 from 12noon to 4:00pm, we will serve close to 200 guests at our 21st Community Christmas Jesus Celebration! On Sunday, December 18, we will enjoy a special time of worship and ministry.

Special thanks to Candase Cornett and our Share Team for their planning and hard work in bringing our Christmas outreach to fruition! Thanks to everyone for making preparations to bless the Lord and serve our guests!

Touching people for Christ, and serving people in innovative ways, is my greatest passion! We remember the legacy of my mother Gaynell Hudson, whose example of loving people deeply shaped my life growing up, and along with dad, has shaped our culture of caring at New Covenant Church. We do this work in Jesus' Name, but we remember her as well.

This year, we are doing something different with our program. Because it is different, I need you to be supportive and flexible. Having the program over the course of the afternoon from 12 noon to 4 PM allows us to serve a greater number of people in our building. Our anticipated numbers are as follows:

12:00 pm 46 people including seniors from Forest Manor

1:00 pm 36 Including men from Jesus House

2:00 pm 64 people

3:00 pm 45 people

Of course, we cannot predict exactly how people will come and go, but we will be blessed to see and serve every adult and child. We will flow with the people and with the Holy Spirit. Myself and designated leaders will be responsible for keeping the service, and people, moving with joy and love.

Around the top of every hour we will begin with dinner in the multipurpose room, followed by performances, ministry, and gift-giving in the auditorium. We will end each hour with prayer and an invitation for people to receive Christ as Savior and Lord.

Finally, we will take group and family pictures and give prints as people are exiting. We'll also capture some testimonies on video.

While offering our program in the auditorium, people arriving for the next hour will go directly to the multi-purpose room for check-in and dinner.

On Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, we will gather to wrap gifts and make preparation for the event. This is also a good time for rehearsals and team meetings. I will be meeting with the ministers and other leaders/workers as needed.

Most importantly, keep the entire weekend in prayer! Come with joy and great expectation in our Lord Jesus Christ!

God's Unfailing Love and Faithfulness

Psalms 117:1 (NLT) Praise the LORD, all you nations. Praise him, all you people of the earth. 2 For he loves us with unfailing love; the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!

This verse from Psalms 117 reminds me of how little God asks of us in contrast to how much more He gives us. It is not that praising God is little in terms of significance or that is the only thing required of believers. The whole Bible is full of admonitions and instructions.

It is amazing that we are the recipients of God's "unfailing love" and a divine faithfulness that endures forever. If you have ever been on the receiving end of "failing love," you know what I mean. If you have ever witnessed people make lame excuses, break their promises, or walk out of your life, you have experienced failed love and unfaithfulness. Of course, if someone's love has failed, faithfulness doesn't have a chance. Selfishness weakens human love, causing it to fail. At the same time, we must examine ourselves in this regard.

You are also blessed to know people who love you with God's unfailing love.

These circumstances serve to remind us in Whom to place our ultimate confidence. It's okay to trust people, but that trust should never exceed our confidence in the One whose love absolutely never fails, who never offers excuses, and who will never walk away from you.

If you are thankful to the Lord for His unfailing love and enduring faithfulness, take a little time right now and do what David said, "Praise the Lord!"

David served as a prophet, priest, king, warrior, a musical genius, and more. Despite all of his gifts and his unfailing heart for God, David did not achieve perfection. None of us can. Only Jesus is perfect.

This message has an over-the-top title, but communicates a very real problem. We all handle pressure and challenging situations differently. Our focus and faith level determines how we handle pressure. David lived under threats against his life by King Saul, whose behavior, fueled by jealousy and the loss of God's favor, had become unstable.

Your Identity GPS: "God’s Priorities System"

There was a time when we unfolded maps to chart our destination. Today we use devices that receive signals from Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) to find our way. All mapping systems rely on fixed coordinates. We require unchanging priorities as reference markers to navigate through an ever-changing world.

Your identity is a fixed point, a reference, and a priority.

We have many titles, attributes, and characteristics. From childhood, we bond with our mothers and fathers. Throughout life, people and things make impressions upon us. We develop a worldview based on those experiences and interactions.

When people do not have Christ and the Word of God within their interaction matrix, one's identity and worldview is shaped by priorities and reference points which are not entirely accurate. A lot of the misery and aimlessness that mark people's lives have resulted from a lack of GPS, "God’s Priorities System".

The most effective interaction available to humanity is to know Jesus Christ. Our best experience of accurate identity is found within the Body of Christ, or His church. Our highest priority is loving God, and loving one another.

On Sunday October 23, we had a glorious celebration of God's faithfulness and the fruitful labors of the New Covenant Church family in serving our community and world.

Patricia and I are honored serve such a wonderful congregation! We thank God for leaders and workers who lead and work. We appreciate the gifts and words of encouragement shared with us. We are blessed to partner with ministries such as Jesus Inside Prison Ministry.

Seek Peace and Prosperity in Your City

Jeremiah 29:7 "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

Jesus said that we were the light of the world. Everywhere we go, He expects us to bring light, pray for people, and make a difference.

Jeremiah had the unenviable responsibility to speak judgment to the people of God, and yet the heart of God continued to be seen.

I find it interesting that sometimes believers want to condemn and curse their cities. Some even proclaim there are evil spirits ruling over their cities. This text makes it clear that God expects us to do our best to help people and raise the standard of living.

In our context, that would also mean proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and going out into the community to serve people. Helping others helps ourselves.

Seven Instructions for Rich People Like Us

1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life

In this text, Apostle Paul provides simple instructions to people of means. In fact, I think that most of us who live in America should consider ourselves rich, especially in comparison to most other people in this world. Whether you consider yourself rich or poor, the admonition provided by Paul is useful to all of us.

The problem with being rich is the tendency to place too much confidence in material possessions and to build one's life around getting more stuff. This is a form of idolatry, which is having devotion for things (and people!) more than for the living God.

Paul gave these seven instructions to rich folks like us:
1. Don't be arrogant
2. Don't put hope in wealth
3. Know that it is God who richly provides all things
4. Do good
5. Be rich in good works
6. Be generous
7. Be willing to share

BTW: Idolatry is not only the temptation of rich people, it can also be the temptation of poor people.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Tim. 6:10 )

Paul's seven simple admonitions will help us stay in pursuit of Jesus and serving others, more than chasing things.

God's "Perfect Faithfulness"

Isaiah 25:1 LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.

The prophet Isaiah wrote these words just after an extended discourse reflecting God's displeasure with His people and the sad condition of people in the earth.

It's as if Isaiah had to take a "praise break." In the midst of difficulty and chaos all around us, God is still God. And God is always good…all the time!

We should praise God for His "perfect faithfulness" in an imperfect world and life. We should exalt Him because he has done wonderful things! We should thank Him for working out His plan through our lives, plans laid out for us a long time ago. What we need to do is discover his plan and choose to follow him.

Make that choice every day.

The Cross of Christ Cancels Boasting

Galatians 6:4, May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

We're living in the day when people like to boast about what they have done. I remember the days when Muhammad Ali boasted, "I am the greatest!" In actual fact, he WAS the greatest boxer of all time! However, his boast of greatness at boxing could not prevent him from acquiring Parkinson's disease. His boast of greatness did not give him a relationship with Jesus Christ.

People today, including Christians, boast of many deeds and attributes. But all of this utterly pales in comparison to what Jesus Christ accomplished.

The apostle Paul was a man of extraordinary intellect and accomplishment in his sphere as a Jewish leader. After encountering Jesus, Paul had the good sense to boldly declare that he would boast in nothing except the cross of Jesus Christ. Paul was not speaking of the physical object on which Jesus was crucified.

The cross is the place where sinful self died. The cross of Christ is no longer the instrument of Christ's death, but the spiritual reality of our changed (or crucified) lives because if His death, burial and resurrection.

The cross is like a filter that helps us daily sort out all of the things that defeat us.

The cross is like a memorial that stands to reminds us of the One who fought and won THE strategic battle that saved our lives forever!

The cross is not something that we wear around our necks, but the truth of a redeemed life on display for the world to see.

We are living in a season where Christian ministry is going fourth at every turn. In the midst of all of our activity and abundance, we still see a wilderness full of lost souls, broken lives and misplaced sheep. We see believers who feel tired, but they don’t know why. Many people are living out of balance, they experience…

• Goals without grace

• Stress without relief

• Zeal without balance

• Work without play

• Producing without partaking

• Relationship without reciprocity

• Battles without hope

• Forces without faces

• Need without supply

• Introspection without direction

Like an ax that has lost its sharp edge requires many strikes to cut what a sharpened ax can cut in a few strikes, dullness requires more energy, more strength. It is not that you may lack strength. It is this: The strength you have is limited in duration.

The solution to the problem with the dull ax is not only found in sharpening it. The solution is also found in exercising wisdom in how we use our “edge.”

For an ax, it’s all about the cutting edge. The handle and shape of the whole ax is designed to make the best use of the edge. Solomon lived long enough, had experience enough success and enough failures to be able to distill life down to simple statements of reality. How many of you know that Solomon was not talking about axes and lumberjacks? How many know that he was talking about his life and life in general.

“Wisdom brings success.” Sharp edges become dull through use. We need wisdom to understand what it means to “sharpen the edge.” The NIV suggests that “skill” is needed for sharpening or knowing how to use the edge.

From a knife sharpening guide: “Maintaining Your Edge”

A properly maintained knife is sharp. A dull knife can be dangerous because you will apply much more pressure than you would with a sharp knife and your hand will be much more likely to slip.   A honing tool will realign the edge and also bring to the surface the carbon molecules that provide most of the cutting action. Frequent honing is essential and will keep your knife cutting like new for months.  Use your honing stool virtually every time you use your knives.

A. We need insight on spiritual diligence and preparedness. We need to be sharpened and honed through wisdom.

1. Without that insight, we find ourselves living with a sense of drudgery rather than with sense of adventure and purpose.

a. One cannot imagine that a chef would enjoy his work as much if he used dull knives everyday.

b. The best athletes don’t try to get ready to compete just before the event. Boxes train intensely for weeks to be ready for a single fight.

2. The apostle Paul likened us to soldiers in 2 Tim. 2:3-5.

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.

3. We should think about how key words inspire our attention and action.

a. Ax – The instrument of service; our lifestyle

b. Edge – The cutting edge— the action edge; What we actually do in the Kingdom of God; our gifts and unique contribution to God’s purpose

c. Wisdom - Ability to make proper choices and reach proper conclusions and decisions; Shrewdly aware and subtly resourceful; Using the proper means and procedures in attaining an end; Knowing how to restore and maintain your edge.

d. Sharpen: Raise the level of your skill and effectiveness

B. Wisdom provides skill and sharpness in many ways. Paul imparted these principles to Timothy:

1 Tim. 4:6 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. 7 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. 10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach,[a] because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. 11 These things command and teach.12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit,[b] in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Is it Time for an "Edge Check?"

Ecclesiastes 10:10 If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.

The next time you find yourself whacking away at a tree or some other endeavor, and it does not yield, change or "fall," it may be time for an Edge Check.

An unsharpened life, like an unsharp ax, will not "cut" or bring the desired results. In this condition, more effort does not produce more results. It only makes one more tired.

Worship, reading/doing the word, fervent prayer, and walking in love will put a sharp edge back on our lives. This is part of the "wisdom that brings success"---and you won't feel so TIRED all the time!

Three Motivating Mandates

14, And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity…
16, Let the word of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom…
23, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

There are three motivating mandates in these Scripture excerpts from Colossians.

1. “Put on love…”
2. “Let the word of Christ dwell among you richly…”
3. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”

Last Sunday, I challenged our congregation and myself to consider how much better we will be as individuals, as servants of Christ, and as a local church by simply and sincerely following these three mandates.

The results are life-changing and sustaining:
1. Love binds us together.
2. The word of Christ dwelling in us richly helps us to faithfully serve one another.
3. Working as unto the Lord is our best motivation for excellence in everything we do.

Furniture in a Field?

It has often been said that "Knowledge is Power." According to Proverbs, knowledge can fill "rooms" with many wonderful things, which may be desirable.

But knowledge alone is not enough.

Can you imagine a room full of things without a house? How useful would it be to arrange furniture on an empty lot? Knowledge without wisdom and understanding looks like furniture in a field, without structure and purpose.

Wisdom is the ability to know what to do and where to do it. Understanding is about knowing the meaning of things. Knowing the "what, where and why" of life MUST come before simply having stuff.

So, it looks like the POWER is really found in possessing wisdom and understanding!

As always, the Word of God teaches us the best way to live!

Love and Faithfulness

Love and faithfulness are two great virtues in life.

Love is the quality of giving yourself to bless others without selfish motivation. God is love. And love never fails.

Faithfulness is the quality of being steadfast and reliable. Faithful people never fail to show up with love, ready to act.

Love and faithfulness should be demonstrated outwardly because we cultivate it from the heart.

This, more than ambition, brings favor with God and man.

Keep in Step With the Spirit

Galatians 5:16, I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

One important key to living a victorious and godly life is not focusing on “not doing” wrong things, but focusing on “Walking in the Spirit.” William Barclay's translation reads, “Keep in step with the Spirit.”

We should not willingly permit conflicts between the desires of the "flesh" and the desire of Spirit of God. This creates a condition of spiritual stagnation and distraction, resulting in not being able to "do the things that you wish." The "flesh" can be defined as, "the entire human nature without God."

We are born of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells us. Many of us have been filled with the Spirit. However, if we are not Spirit controlled, then we are flesh controlled, or carnal.

Everyday, remember to "keep in step with the Spirit" and everything else will work out fine!

My Healing from Chronic Pain Felt like a Dream

Psalms 126:1, When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dreamed.

This morning, when I awoke, it felt like a dream.

For almost four weeks I have been suffering with chronic pain. Chronic pain is not uncommon today. There are people who have suffered with pain for years. However, there is no pain like your own!

The pain I have been experiencing is the worst that I can remember. I experienced the pain of a torn Achilles tendon, after which I drove myself to the hospital for treatment. I've experienced the pain of a separated shoulder. I've experienced the pain of stepping a broken bottle and having the glass impaled in my foot. I've experienced the pain of concussion. I've experienced the pain of severe sprain in both ankles. I've experienced the pain of having tissue torn away from behind my kneecap. I even experienced the pain of having two front teeth knocked out from taking an elbow while playing basketball.

But never have I endured such pain as I have experienced over the past four weeks, day and night. X-rays showed no spine damage. My doctor could only recommend therapy and prescribe something strong for the pain. I opted to take only over-the-counter pain medicine such as Advil and Aleve. These medications took the edge off the pain. Every 3 to 5 hours the pain would return in full effect, causing great difficulty in simple tasks like bathing, standing or putting on my shoes.

Sunday before last, I showed up at church to preach carrying my shoes because I couldn't put them on until the pain medicine kicked in.

Well, as they say, "I've said all of that to say this."

This morning, August 16, I woke up without pain!
Amen!
Praise God!
Hallelujah!
Thank you Jesus!

When I sat up, there was no pain. When I stood up, there was no pain. When I reach down for my shoes, there was no pain!

As with the children of Israel of old (who certainly endured far worse conditions than my own), not being "captive" to pain felt like a dream. For some 26 days, the joy of each new day had been greeted by excruciating pain. Finally, as I twisted and turned in ways that would have made the pain worse, there was only discomfort, not pain.

I thank God for His mercy, for the prayers of believers, and for the healing power of my Lord Jesus Christ!

Light in God's Shadow

The 91st Psalm is word in season, for any season of your life. In God's shadow, and in any shadow where Christ is present, there is light.

Psalm 91 (NKJV)

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;

Time for Another Praise Break

Psalms. 77:12, I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds. 13 Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. (Read the entirety of Psalm 77)

When we read a scripture such as this one, we are reminded why David was called, "A man after God's own heart." David had the good sense, and the wisdom, to always give God praise regardless of the circumstances.

Praising God is not just saying, "Praise the Lord!" Praise is speaking in joyful detail about the power and goodness of God!

The Settledness of Living in God's Courts

Psalm 65:4 Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple. 5 You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, 6 who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, 7 who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. 8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.

The word "court" literally means, "the place surrounded by a fence." A court is an enclosure, a settled abode, or a settlement.

Everyone abides somewhere. Not only do we have an abode called "home," we abide in many places of the heart of and mind. Whatever captures our interest, stirs our passion, or commands our time, defines the outlines of our "courts."

In this text, David is clearly focused on the courts of God. Looking at his life, especially when we consider his episodes in courts of failure and compromise, David learned to greatly appreciate the benefits of living in God's presence. He wrote, "We are filled with the good things of your house…" and, "The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy"

This are the words of a man living in God's courts. What are the tone and substance of our words? When we, as dwellers in His court, are surrounded by the elements of God, our thoughts, words, plans, and actions will reflect a new "settledness" in us.

Chosen, Royal, Holy and Special

1 Peter 2:9, But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

There are four keys to your standing, both in Christ and in this world:

1. Know that you are a Chosen Generation: WHY WE STAND
Chosen means picked out, choice, select, the best of its kind or class, excellence preeminent.

2. Know that you are Royal Priesthood: HOW WE STAND
We are royal: kingly, and regal. We carry ourselves in a manner that faithfully reflects King Jesus.

3. Know that you are a Holy Nation: WHERE WE STAND
Holy is the Greek word hagios meaning “different” and “other than.” God is not "like." He is "other." Other people may follow the standards of the world, but for believers our standards are holy or other.

4. Know that you are His Special People: WHO WE STAND WITH
The value of a thing lies in the one who possesses it. An old violin in the hands of a master violinist becomes more special, and gains greater value. The reality that we are possessed by God raises our value many fold.

There is an expected outcome from your standing:

"That you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."

Lord, My Times are in Your Hands...

Psalms 31:19 How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you

I never ceased to be amazed and blessed by God's timing and providence. For many years, I've been following a daily Bible reading plan online, such as BibleGateway. Today's reading included Psalms 31 & 32.

There are junctures in life and ministry that challenge our thinking, feelings and outlook on life. This is especially true when it looks like everything is not "turning up roses." However, I agree with David who said, "My times are in your hands…" I am also reminded that, "How abundant are the good things" that are "stored up" for us.

It is precisely in these times that we realize more plainly that God is real, His presence is close, His power is undiminished, and Jesus is interceding on our behalf. It's not that we lost sight of Him. It's like standing next to the majestic mountain that you've only seen in pictures. There's nothing like being close!

Thank you Lord for being Lord of our times and for releasing blessings from your storehouse as we take refuge in you.

The Favor Factor

1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Esther 2:8-9 …Esther also was taken to the king’s palace, into the care of Hegai the custodian of the women. 9 Now the young woman pleased him, and she obtained his favor; so he readily gave beauty preparations to her, besides her allowance.

Romans 14:17, For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.

Favor is a necessary component in life. We all hope to achieve success and recognition based on our merits, education, experience, and willingness to work hard. God has given us abilities and grace to acquire skills that we can use in life, work, and ministry.

Virtues and achievement like hard work and education are not enough. We need favor both with God and man. Favor means to give special regard to; to treat with goodwill; and to show exceptional kindness to someone. Favor often carries the benefit of preferential treatment.

Favor comes both in natural and supernatural ways. We usually only think about favor from God's supernatural perspective.

Esther received favor from the King because she was beautiful (Esther Chapter Two). This was an example of natural favor. Many people have obtained favor because of their physical appearance or other traits that people find pleasing. Natural favor is something that you should not dismiss especially when it seems you may have the "deck stacked" against you at times.

There are things we can do to increase our acceptability to others, and thus increase in favor by that measure. We should do our best to present ourselves well outwardly. Other factors of natural favor are found in performing actions in an excellent manner and in possessing an exceptionally good attitude. Doing something very well can overcome other limiting factors in the eyes of others.

Natural favor has its role in life, but God's supernatural favor is what we need more than anything. God's favor comes because of His mercy, His love, redemption provided through Christ, and His grace. God also honors the obedience, faith, and good works of his people. There are benefits that come from "doing those things that are pleasing in His sight." (1 John 3:22)

Doing that which pleases God is a key component of living in God's favor. We don't please God to get stuff. We please Him because we love the Lord. Receiving blessings and benefits are the welcome by-product of a fruitful relationship with Christ.

Favor follows those who pursue righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Does the preceeding statement describe your focus and pursuit? Will you get into position to receive the "set time" of God's favor?

Psalm 102:13 You will arise and have mercy on Zion; For the time to favor her, Yes, the set time, has come.

No More Lame Excuses

Acts 14:19 Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city.

Without a doubt, one of God's most persistent and tough servants was the Apostle Paul. The text says that a crowd "stoned" him (i.e. They hit him with rocks, bricks and stuff!), and dragged him out of the city because they thought he was dead (i.e. He was bloodied, severely wounded and battered).

What happened next? Believers gathered around him and obviously prayer for him. The power of God ministered to him in some way, though the text does not indicate exactly what happened.

But here's the amazing part: Paul "got up and went back into the city!"

I'm thinking of the some of the lame excuses people give for not serving God, for missing church meetings, for not supporting the work of God, and more. I'm also thinking about my own struggle at times to continue doing something God wants me to do, because of challenges that arise, or the lack of support of others, or the apparent "smallness" of my impact.

In light of Paul's commitment to the work of Christ, ALL of your excuses and my excuses become simply irrelevant. Serving God is a transcendent motivation. There is nothing greater than serving God from a pure heart.

Can you imagine someone coming in late to Paul's meeting that day and trying to offer an excuse? Paul might say, "I was stoned and left for dead yesterday…so you say what?"

Selah!

God does not show favoritism. Do you?

Acts 10:34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

In this text, Peter was ministering to a man named Cornelius. Cornelius was a Jew. If Peter did not have a recent visitation from the Lord, he would not be talking to Cornelius. God made it clear to Peter that he was not to treat non-Jewish people as "common," "unclean" or unworthy of personal contact.

Peter acknowledge this change in his theology when he said, "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him."

I wonder if we understand that very important truth today. Sometimes, it looks like we are unwilling to associate with people who are not like ourselves. As Peter said, Jesus Christ is “Lord of all.”

We need to think more about reaching people who we consider "common" from our own cultural and religious perspectives. It took a dramatic vision to change Peter's mind. It should only take this scripture to change our minds.

God loves people, all people! For believers in Christ and ministers of the gospel, loving people is job number one. When we love people, we will be motivated and able to do the works of Jesus as described in Acts 10:38:

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth [also insert your name here________] with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Without the willingness to reach all people and love all people, there is no anointing, no power, no doing good, and no healing people who are under the power of the devil.

The Best Lesson from the Book of Job

Job 11:13 “Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him, 14 if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, 15 then, free of fault, you will lift up your face; you will stand firm and without fear. 16 You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.

This text shown above are the words of Zophar, who was one of the guys trying to counsel Job in his time of testing. This is a good and accurate statement in its own right, but it is always important to read the Book of Job in context.

The book of Job is full of rants, reasons and relentless speculations. It is difficult to sort out the sanity from the insanity! Words and phrases that sounded like solid doctrine were sometimes later contradicted or refuted. Everyone of us can "wax eloquent" from time to time, even when what we say carries no authority. This why we must take statements from the Book of Job with several grains of salt.

God listened to everyone's opining and pontificating, and then began to respond:

Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: 2 “Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3 Now prepare yourself like a man;I will question you, and you shall answer Me. 4 “ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding…"

At the end of the book, God rebuked everyone for presuming to possess wisdom and insight that was His alone. This is the best lesson from the Book of Job.

Make the Choice to Make a Difference

Esther 3:8 Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them. 9 If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will give ten thousand talents of silver to the king’s administrators for the royal treasury.”

People who separate themselves to serve God and live by His word attract criticism at best, and at worst, evil intentions from those who hate God.

The time came when Mordecai and Esther would have to take a stand on behalf of the people of God to stop Haman's genocidal plot.

Just as Esther learned hat she had "Come to the kingdom for such a time as this," (4:14) believers in Christ must recognize that God wants us to take a stand to make a difference in the lives of people.

Oftentimes our choice to make a difference brings life and turns away the shadow of death.

Nehemiah 2:17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” 18 I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me. They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

Broken down walls represent a loss of purpose, protection and dignity. For Jerusalem in Nehemiah's day, the broken walls were saying, "We are defeated and overcome!"

Interestingly, the answer to this desperate situation came from a far away place and from the heart of a man with no personal history in Jerusalem. One man's compassion started a "rebuilding" movement by igniting a flame of hope in the hearts of people ready to be inspired.

Never underestimate your ability to make a difference through the grace of God!

God's Plans for You Stand Firm!

A New Look for a New Life

Ephesians 5:22 Throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception. 23 Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. 24 You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God's likeness – righteous, holy, and true

It is interesting that even though we are already born-again and new creations in Christ, it is necessary to "throw off" all remnants of our former behavior.

Because we are new people, it is appropriate to change our surroundings and our mindset. This new life is like purchasing a house and then going in to take out leftover trash, repainting the walls, and removing all items related to the previous owner.

A new life needs a new look, a new mindset, and a fresh vision.

Most importantly, we need to look like Jesus Christ, live holy, and reflect his character to everyone around us.

How to Escape "The Box"

John 6:5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

Jesus tested and challenged his disciples. He suggested something that seemed preposterous to the disciples when they first heard it. Jesus actually suggested that a whole multitude of people could be fed by a few men. This wasn't as simple as the "glass half empty or glass half full" scenario. For the disciples it was "no glass and almost no water."

The text states, "He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do!"
Remember that Jesus thinks big! When it comes to helping people, no challenge is too great and limited resources are no excuse.

Philip and Andrew were firmly planted "inside the box" of making excuses. Jesus wanted all His disciples--including you and me--thrown clear of such boxes by challenging them (and us) to do things that require faith and dependance on the creative power of God.

From which box or boxes do you need to escape? It is likely that Jesus will ask you to do something greater than you think possible.

Why Do You Want to See Jesus?

Luke 23:8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort.

In this text, Jesus was on trial, preparing to suffer and die for our sins. Herod said that he was happy to see Jesus, but only because he wanted to see a show (signs). Today, I have to ask: Why do you want to see Jesus?

God's Simple Pattern For Your Growth

John 17:17, "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

The Lord Jesus prayed a powerful prayer for you and me. Verse 17 is one part of what we often Christ's "high priestly prayer" that reveals God's pattern for our growth. There are three key terms:

1. "Sanctify" essentially means, "set apart for special (or holy) use."
2. "Truth" is "reality as God defines it."
3. "Word" is God's will, plan, purposes as well as the person of Jesus Christ.

It's a simple and powerful prescription:

Being set part for divine purpose and being used mightily by God results from living in God's reality (His ways) as imparted to us by the Word of God (The Bible) and relationship with Jesus Christ (the living Word).

So, go get into the Word today!

Donald Trump and Sympathizers Should Apologize

It was disappointing to hear Donald Trump say the words, "I am very proud of myself…" in relation to President Obama releasing his long form birth certificate. A man of character would have taken the opportunity to apologize for disparaging the president and ultimately, his family.

This whole birther "silliness," to use the president's phrase, has served only to demonstrate the hatred that a whole lot of people have for Barack Obama. Sadly, many people, including some Christians have participated in this shameful display of distrust and disrespect for a fellow citizen and our national leader. This is clearly unbiblical behavior.

Politically, it would have been a greater "in-your-face" tactic for President Obama to let his haters continue to stew in their birther foolishness, and later release the long form to their greater embarrassment. He demonstrated character by doing something that was completely unnecessary and beneath him. The man is 49 years old, an accomplished American citizen, devoted family man of one wife, and the President of the United States of America!

There are those who will have the gall to say, "Well, he should have released it sooner!" Only a racist or hateful person would suggest that a duly elected President of the United States is an illegal alien. Regardless of your views of Mr. Obama's policies, he has clearly shown himself respectful and "presidential." He seems to show more personal Christian qualities in these matters than those who belittle him.

The inconvenient truth is this: If President Obama had a "normal" name and "pedigree," none of this would have been an issue. Then again, most minorities in our great, but flawed, nation precisely understand what has occurred.

It's not enough to simply dismiss Mr. Trump (and others) as a fringe element, because his views are shared by an alarming percentage of political partisans. Christian leaders, especially in the GOP and Tea Party need to deal with ungodliness if they claim party membership/ideology or follow the biblical mandate to, "Be separate...come out from among them." (2 Cor. 6:17)

Covenant Never Forgets to Love

1 Samuel 9:1 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
6 ...David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied. 7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”

Covenant relationship compelled David to remember his covenant brother Jonathan, who was already deceased.

David wanted to do something to benefit some descendent of Jonathan's household. Mephibosheth had been disabled since childhood. He was a cast out in society and overlooked. But because of David's covenant with Jonathan, he did not forget Mephibosheth. Even though he was Saul's grandson, the man who sought to kill him, David harbored no animosity toward Mephibosheth or Saul's family.

David's loyalty and integrity moved him to treat Mephibosheth like one of his family, even when he thought that David was to take vengeance on him.

Are we showing covenant kindness to the family of God and to our own family?

Is there anyone that we are supposed to receive like family, who may seem to be an unlikely recipient, but one whom God is encouraging us to love and serve?

Consult with God about the "Proper Order" Today!

1 Chronicles 15:13 For because you did not do it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order.” 14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.

Two men died when David allowed the Ark of the Covenant to be carried on an ox cart (Read 1 Chronicles 13). This did not happen because God was mean. It happened because David, and those around him, ignored God's order. The Ark was designed to only be transported by priests using the tools provided.

Ignoring God's word, order, and wisdom in life is like driving on the wrong side of the highway. It's just a matter of time before trouble, or tragedy, happens.

The solution, then and now, is the same: "Consult Him (God) about the proper order."

Take time to pray, understand the Scriptures, heed godly counsel, and be led by the Spirit of God (not just your own spirit). Getting the proper order may only take a few minutes, but His order will save you hours and hours of heartache!

Reflections from Route 66 and Much More!

Psalms 24:1, "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof..."

Since last Thursday, April 7, I have been traveling with my dad and my youngest son, Jonathan. We're taking one of those "trips of a lifetime" driving through parts of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. We're enjoying the natural beauty, the rich culture of our great nation, and reflecting on the goodness of God!

It is especially wonderful to spend these eight days with my hero and father, Horace Bryan Hudson, who is the best man I've ever known. Dad is 74 years old and still going strong, preaching the Gospel, playing tennis and more!

We flew into Denver, Colorado on Thursday 4/7, picked up our rental car, enjoyed some breakfast and began our journey.

Who is the Greatest Among Us?

Luke 9:46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”

It seems that pride and arrogance are a problem in every generation, past and present! Jesus disciples actually argued about who would be the greatest!

Can you imagine that argument? Andrew said, "Hey, Jesus chose me first!" John proclaimed, "Yeah, and I was with him AND John the Baptist in the beginning of this whole thing!" Philip announced, "I can speak Greek!" Nathaniel grunted, "Well, I am a 'True Israelite.'" Peter chimed in, "Wait a minute! Jesus used MY boat to preach from and I had the revelation that Jesus is the Christ, while ya'll stood around wondering!"

Then and now, believers and preachers too often consider themselves greater, or better, than others because of what one possesses or has accomplished. We may not use the words, but our thoughts sometimes betray us.

Jesus' counsel still stands: The greatest are those who welcome others, see themselves as the least, and becomes a servant to all others.

In a nutshell, the greatest is Jesus and we would do well to follow His example!

Religion or Relationship?

Luke 6:6 On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” 10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Jesus did not respect religion, especially when it prevented people from being blessed.

Choosing between being legalism or helping people in need should have been an easy choice for any person, including the Pharisees. Because religion does not carry the heart of God, it will default to perpetuating itself, even to the neglect of people in need.

Jesus openly defied the religious spirit, and its adherents, by healing a man on the Sabbath day. This infuriated the religious leaders, who could not find it in their heart to rejoice over a man who had been supernaturally healed.

The love of God will always trump religious tradition. Thank God that we have more than religion. We have a relationship with the risen Savior and we carry His heart to people!

It's Not Too Late: "Give Me This Mountain!"

Joshua 14:10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day;

One of the greatest trials in life is waiting for a promise. It's one thing to be forced to wait because of circumstances or choices that you have made for yourself. It's a whole other thing to be forced to wait because of the choices of others.

This is where we find Caleb some 45 years after he and Joshua were on the brink of entering into their Promised Land. 45 years earlier Caleb, Joshua and 10 other spies (more of an "exploratory group") went to view the Promised Land. Because of the negative and faithless report brought back by the 10 other spies, both Joshua and Caleb were forced to miss out on the greatest opportunity of their lives.

In this text, after 45 years of waiting, we find Caleb still encouraged, still expecting, still vibrant in his faith even at the age of 85-years-old. You have to love this statement, “I am as strong today as on the day that Moses sent me.” The obvious fact is that an 85-year-old man is not a strong as a 40-year-old man. However, Caleb believed he was still strong, and that's all that matters! That's the power of faith and encouragement.

The most remarkable statement in this text is one we should keep in our hearts and minds. It is a statement of enduring hope and high expectations. It is a statement of extraordinary confidence in Almighty God. That statement is:

“Give me this mountain!”

If Caleb could hold onto his faith for 45 years and still be in love with God and His purposes, so can you!

The Best Place to Live

Psalms 84:10 (NIV), A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. 11 For the LORD God is our light and protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will the LORD withhold from those who do what is right. 12 O LORD Almighty, happy are those who trust in you.

We who live in our Father's House always live better than those who have the so-called "good life" in wicked places. Quality of life is not measured by how much stuff one has, but by our relationship with the Lord. Because we are in relationship with God, we have access to all His resources!

As the text says, "No good thing will he withhold from those who do what is right."

The Light of Love | Pt. 2, Benefits of Loving Others

The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

When we think about light vs. darkness, we usually associate it with spiritual warfare with an emphasis on darkness. John, who is often called the "Apostle of Love," presents another perspective: Our walk of love impacts our relationship to spiritual light and darkness.

Because of the "new and improved" love commandment that Jesus brought, "The darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining." In a world of darkness, we have the opportunity to always walk in the light of God. We also have the opportunity to walk in darkness by permitting hatred of others. As John wrote in verse nine, "He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now."

For people who claim never be guilty of hating others, I like to point out the the definition of "hate" is "strong dislike." Is there anyone whom you strongly dislike? Hatred permits a darkness that hinders one's progress and produces some level of "blindness."

However, the focus of this text is found in verse 10, "He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him."

Loving our brother (or fellow man), creates a condition in which God's light brings clarity and freedom of action/movement. This truth should become a great source of motivation to live and walk in the light of love!

The Light of Love | Pt. 1, An old commandment made new in the hands of the Master

The message of loving God and loving others is both old and new. It is an old message because we find it first given way back in the time of Moses: "You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD." (Leviticus 19:18)

God's original intent was stated long before Jesus walked the earth. Loving our neighbors, or our fellow man, is the best way to shine a light that has the power to move darkness. There is light inside of love. The commandment is new because Jesus came to "fulfill the law" (Matt. 5:17) or give life and power to the words of old.

As an old song can find new expression through the performance of a master conductor, Jesus who is the Master of All brought love to a whole new level. "Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining."

Because of Christ, our love (i.e. our deeds) brings light to everyone we contact. Hate has the opposite effect.

Let the "royal law" of love (James 2:8) motivate your thinking, speaking and actions today!

People Don't Need a Sign. They Need a Relationship With Jesus.

Mark 8:11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. 12 He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.

People who don't truly know God, don't trust Him. The Pharisees tried to squeeze Jesus into their religious mold. They asked questions, they tested him against their warped standards, and they even asked for a sign.

All of this "noise" grieved the Lord. The only thing they needed to do is seek to get into relationship with Jesus. Signs (things done to impress others) are for the circus.

A relationship with the Lord and Savior answers the questions and satisfies the soul.

Four Principles of Your Seed

Mark 4:26 And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head.

Four Principles from Mark 4:26-28:

1. The kingdom of God, and your life, operates on the principle of Seedtime and harvest.

Gen. 8:22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night shall not cease.”
“..as if a man should scatter [sow] seed...”
Gal. 6:7, Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
The harvest, or results, we get from life come from the seeds of action that we plant, or of what others have planted into us.

2. A seed, once planted, gains the power to produce and increase.

We don’t know how seeds grow even after many years on a shelf. It is not necessary to understand how seeds and the seed principle works. Just know that God designed seeds to produce after it is planted.
One thing is certain: If you do not sow a seed, you will never have a harvest.

3. Increase comes in stages. “For the earth yields crops by itself, first the blade, then...” Expect a harvest and look for signs of increase. When you see the “blade,“ or first evidence God's blessing, make your plans for continued growth and increase. Start sowing for the next harvest while reaping the current harvest.

Don't fret over the process or the timing of the harvest stages. Be thankful that God is honoring your obedience and keep sowing!

4. Our goal for reaping a harvest is not just to have success and more stuff, but to have “good success” (success God's way) and to establish God’s covenant in the earth

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
We want to use our blessings to help establish God's work and the New Covenant for which Jesus gave His life.
Deuteronomy 8:17 then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ 18 “And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

How to Remove Barriers: "Be Being Filled with the Spirit."

Eph 5:17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.

One of the biggest barriers to a fruitful life is emptiness in the heart and mind. Have you heard the saying, "Nature abhors a vacuum?" When there is emptiness, nature wants to fill that space. Your vacuum cleaner works on that principle. By removing air from the cleaner bag, the device then draws in particles. When the bag gets full, the vacuum effect weakens.

Notice this text in Matthew 12:43-45, “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first."

When people are "delivered," but afterwards do not fill the void with the Spirit and word of God, they become subject to the return of the same bad attitudes, habits, or demonic influences that formerly went out. Sometimes for a lack of wisdom and understanding the will of God, people constantly seek "deliverance" and "getting set free."

The best plan for removing barriers and living in lasting victory is this: "Be filled with the Spirit."

Some commentators highlight that the verb used here is better understood as, "Be being filled with the Spirit." Staying full is not a one time event, but a daily pursuit.

The Culture of the Righteous

Matthew 25:37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Read verses 31-46 for context)

The Scriptures remind us that God's priorities are often different from our priorities. It seems that popular Christian culture is bent more in the direction of "me" than in the direction of "others."

One definition of culture is: "The set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization."

The culture of "me" that permeates a lot of Christian activity and ministry doesn't square with the teachings of Jesus. Matthew 25 is a troubling read because it seems to make doing good deeds the basis of entrance into God's eternal kingdom. We must remember that this story is told to emphasize the importance of serving others, not a lesson in salvation.

The culture of the righteous is serving and giving, not receiving. Jesus identifies with people in trouble because he wants them to discover God's grace and power.

Those of us who are blessed and favored must cultivate a culture of service in others so that we do not turn inward and lose sight of Christ's priorities.

Ready or Not, He Will Come!

Matthew 24:44, "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

Today, we don't hear a lot about the return of Christ. As a matter of fact, I've heard people say that Jesus could not return today because the church is not ready for His return. "Could not" sounds like "not expecting" to me.

Readiness is a matter of perspective. The church in America does not necessarily look like the church in the whole earth. God always has people who love him, serve him, and are expecting his return.

The bottomline is what Jesus said, "Be ready!" The real issue is: What does "ready" look like?

Finish Your work. Expect the Presence of God.

Exodus 40:32 So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD commanded Moses. 33 Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work. 34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

I have often read this text and I never ceased to be blessed. Millions of dollars (by today's value) of offerings and donations of items, untold man-hours of craftsmanship by artisans, attention to instruction, and devotion to God's presence, raised a portable "facility" in the wilderness. All of the work that went into building the tabernacle resulted from God's vision that was given to Moses.

Verse 32 says, "The Israelites did everything just as the LORD commanded Moses." Verse 33 says, "….So Moses finished the work." The people supported the God-given vision and the visionary. They helped Moses finish the work.

Verses 34-35 reveal the best part of the whole project! "…The glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle."

Until they finished the work, God's glory did not come. When they finished it, God's glorious presence invaded the space they created!

This is a simple and powerful message: Understand your assignment; Follow instructions; Finish the work; Expect the glory of God to come!

Bezalel: The Great Servant No One Knows

Exodus 31:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, 2 “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— 4 to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 5 to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.

The Bible is full of well known people like Moses, who did great things for God in his generation. We say, "Moses built the tabernacle in the wilderness." Technically, Moses was RESPONSIBLE for the tabernacle and its articles. However, the man who actually built the tabernacle and crafted items such as the altar and Ark of the Covenant was Bezalel and a team of artisans.

God uses people of diverse gifts and skills to fulfill His purpose and bring substance to dreams and visions. The church is the Body of Christ. Senior leaders carry vision and great responsibility, but they are not alone. The church needs people like Bezalel who bring their gifts and skills to God's work. More important is the wisdom that God gives for that work.

Ask God to empower you to serve. Open your heart to GRACE to serve. Through Christ, let these words become true for you: "I have filled (your name______________) with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.

Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life

"Renewing the Mind" is a foundational reality in the Word of God. The New Birth changed your nature, bringing new life within through the redemption and power of Christ. What remains is the same mind, personality, and physical body as before.

Bascially a "carnal" (flesh-ruled) Christian is one who claims Christ in the heart, but lives according to the desires of the flesh, not according to the purposes and holiness of God. Romans 8:5 (NIV), says, "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires."

What is a mindset? 1) It is a belief that affect somebody’s attitude. 2) A habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations

What is an attitude? 1) A personal view of something 2) A manner, disposition, feeling, position, etc., with regard to a person or thing; tendency or orientation of the mind.

The only way to consistently live "in accordance with the Spirit" is to allow the Word and Spirit of God to change your thinking, habits, and behavior. Refusing this change and growth is both foolish and dangerous. More importantly, there is no good reason not the change for the better since grace has been given to us for that purpose.

Read the following passages of Scripture from three Bible versions. While reading, ask yourself, "According to God's word, how should I think and order my everyday life?"

Rom 12:1 (NKJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Rom 12:1 (NLT) And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Rom 12:1-2 (Message) So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Instruction is the Way of Life

Proverbs 10:17 He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.

Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold;

Proverbs 12:1 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.

Luke 6:47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

The Bible is your book of instruction!

Receiving God's best and giving God your best begins with recognizing your assignment(s) in life. It is fully realized by embracing instruction in your life.

Think of all the best things in your life. Now think of the broken or unfulfilled things in your life. A lot of disappointment in your life is related to instructions you have ignored.

Imagine trying to drive around a large city where there were no traffic lights and signs (instructions). There would be frustration, accidents and chaos. This is how a life looks that lacks instruction. Instructions are for our protection and our provision. Instruction is often the difference between success and failure.

Isaac offers a powerful example of the power of instruction to preserve and prosper your life:

Genesis 26:1 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar. 2 Then the LORD appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. 4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; 5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” 6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar…12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; 14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.

Because of following instruction, Isaac not only survived a famine, but thrived in the midst of it! And so can you!

Face Your Big Challenge. Raise Your Faith Level.

Matthew 14:15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

Just when the disciples felt the day was done and that they could send the people away, Jesus prepared to raise their level of faith.

The disciples realized that the people must have been hungry, but it did not enter into their minds that thousands could be fed with small provisions. The disciples' "solution" to the challenge was to send the people away hungry. They told Jesus that the people NEEDED to go away. Jesus said, "They do not need to go away." The real NEED that day was for disciples to discover the love and power of Jesus. We know the rest of that amazing story!

When you feel like you have to walk away from a big challenge, remember that the Miracle Worker is with you. Rather than trying to avoid, you can face your big challenge head-on with the power of God.

We need to become more acquainted with the power of God than with making excuses!

Established and Anointed by Your Assignment

2 Corinthians 1:17, Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No? 18 But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. 20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God

In 2 Corinthians, Paul gives us some insight into some of the challenges he faced in fulfilling his God-given assignment. In verses 8-9 he wrote, "We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead."

Needless to say, he encountered a very difficult set of circumstances. He even "dispaired of life," meaning that his life was in danger.

What kept Paul was his clear focus on God's assignment for his life. He maintained focus on the promises of God. He continued to walk by faith and not by sight. He turned his challenging season into another reason to trust God more!

This is an example of the importance of knowing and doing your assignment. When we are pursuing God's work, His promises become clearer. As Paul said in verse 20, "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us."

God always says "YES" to his purposes and promises! Fulfilling your assignment keeps you close to His purposes and promises.

Paul wrote in verse 21, "Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God."

Your assignment is anointed because it is empowered by God's promises (His Word). You are established by power of the Holy Spirit!

Removing Unbelief: A Key Benefit of Prayer & Fasting

Matthew 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

"Fasting confirms our utter dependence upon God by finding in Him a source of sustenance beyond food." (Dallas Willard)

Jesus' disciples could not help a child that was brought to them. They BELIEVED that they could help the child, but were unable to do so. They asked Jesus, “Why could we not cast it out?” Jesus said, "Because of your unbelief."

Wait a minute! If the disciples had a problem with unbelief, why did they try to cast out the demon?

Unbelief is not only a lack of belief or lack of faith. Unbelief is also a lack of preparation.

Prayer & fasting helps "this kind" to "go out." I don't think the text necessarily means "this kind" of demon (even though some Bible versions indicate this). I think Jesus is talking about "this kind" power and presence of God going forth from (or out of) those who prepare themselves to minister to people. The real subject of this text is not demons, but faith in God.

Regardless of your interpretation, it is clear that prayer and fasting help us go to a higher level of functioning by faith. Part of that higher level comes from not placing our usual emphasis on food and things natural/earthly. Faith is more than believing. Faith is acting on the Word of God.

Prayer is the most important spiritual activity we take and fasting enhances that activity.

Join the New Covenant Church family in prayer and fasting January 11-13, 2010. Skip at least one meal per day and alter your routines to change your focus and make more time for prayer.

Why are you doing what you do?

Colossians 3:17, And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Why do we act? What are the motivations behind our actions?

We sometimes act because we feel badly when we see a need. Sometimes taking action makes us feel better. Sometimes we act because we "need to be needed."

I want to suggest that these are all lesser motivations that are not sustainable in the long run and can lead to manipulation by others. Living and acting only by "feeling" is like riding a roller coaster!

Taking action "in the name of Jesus" means that we act based on God's purpose/plan and under His authority. Giving thanks to Father God in the midst of our actions keeps us focused on the right priorities.

Genesis 11:5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel—because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Matthew18:19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

The Book of Genesis records the story of people building a tower outside of God's will and purpose. The tower was not intended to be a "skyscraper" high-rise building, but some kind of pagan or man-centered monument.

What was most interesting about this endeavor is that God recognized that the people were in full agreement, both in their words and their intent. The Lord said, "Nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them." This was the power of agreement. However, the people practiced the RIGHT principle at the WRONG time, so God broke up the agreement by confusing their languages. Babel means "confusion."

Fast forward to Matthew's account of Jesus teaching His disciples about the principle of agreement. He taught His disciples essentially the same principle as practiced by the people. However, in this case, it was the RIGHT principle at the RIGHT time!

Here at the beginning of 2011, local churches are hearing timely statements of vision and purpose from senior leaders. God is making His purposes known throughout faithful leaders.

NOW is the time to get in agreement with vision, mission, purpose and practice!

NOW is the time to let our intentions, words and action align with your pastor and church mission!

NOW is the time allow the Lord to release His full measure of blessing upon those who dare to agree to do God's will!

God's Best & My Best in 2011

In 2010, as with previous years, my daily devotions included scripture reading from BibleGateway.com. This Read-The-Bible-In-A-Year plan concluded today on December 31, 2010. This final reading was Malachi chapters 1-4 and Revelation chapter 22.

Most of what I share in my blog postings, and many of the messages I deliver, come from this daily Bible reading. There is something special about pre-planned Scripture readings that God can use to bless and inspire you on the day it is read. BibleGateway is neither my sole source of Bible reading, nor is it my only source of insight and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Honestly, I don't do the reading every single day. I am about "90% faithful" in this regard.

Today as I read, while praying and considering God's direction for myself and our ministry in 2011, the Spirit of the Lord used today's reading from the Book of Malachi in a mighty way!

One of the keys that God is giving to our congregation, New Covenant Church, to the larger Body of Christ, and to me is summarized by the simple statement: "God's Best in 2011!"

This statement is not intended as hype or some catchy phrase. I believe this statement captures the sense of what God was saying through Malachi to His people.

When I read the whole book and considered God's words to the people, I was deeply impressed with this thought, "I want to give God my best because God gives His best."

Rather than expound on this book in this brief blog post, I invite you to read Malachi for yourself (Here is a link). I may offer my insights in coming days, but you should read this text for your own understanding and blessing.

The four chapters reveal God's heart towards His people. God makes statements and the people ask questions as if they didn't understand or know God as they should have. These exchanges seem to reflect conditions of the human heart that continue to this day.

What God expected from His people, and the blessing He wanted to release to them, was found in the single, powerful idea of, "Nothing but the best."

Today, as people redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God, our Savior Jesus Christ, we know that God gave us His best!

We are in a different biblical season than Israel of old, but God's nature has not changed. He always expects the best.

Malachi 1:6 “A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty. “It is you priests who show contempt for my name. “But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’ 7 “By offering defiled food on my altar. “But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’ 8 When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the LORD Almighty.

The last words of the Bible on the last day of my readings for 2010 reveals the source of God's best for you and me: Revelation 22:21, "The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen."

By God's grace, nothing but the best in 2011!

The Knowledge of Glory of the Lord will Fill the Earth

Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

In the midst of difficult prophetic declarations, we see a glimmer of hope embedded in this text from Habakkuk. Our God is a God of hope. His ultimate intentions are always clear: He wants to save people, gather people, and dwell among them.

This is why we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He causes God's intentions to become reality.

Ultimately, God will have a family and a kingdom of people who will fulfill the prophecy of an earth filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. In our generation, what we say and do for Christ is part of the fulfillment of this promise.

Spread the knowledge by telling people about Jesus!

Jesus, My Best Friend

John 15:9 As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

It is amazing to realize that we have the opportunity not only to worship God, not only to reverence him, and stand in awe of him, but we were invited to be friends with God. I don’t believe that any religion of this world offers such an idea, that one might be friends with the deity, with the God who is reverenced, feared, and worshiped.

What we learn from this text is that Jesus wants a relationship with his followers--not just a religious devotion--but a loving, sincere, and committed relationship. In verse nine, Jesus says that as the Father has loved Him, He is also loved us. This makes the relationship between Jesus and father God the example and pattern of the kind of relationship we should have with Jesus and with one another.

There are three levels of relationships: 1. There are acquaintances; 2. There are colleagues/co-workers/partners: 3. And there are true friends.

From the civil rights movement, there is the story of a reporter in an urban area who saw a girl carrying a little boy. She seemed to be struggling to hold him. The reporter asked, “Isn’t he heavy?” The girl answered, “He’s not heavy, he’s my brother.”

An acquaintance, co-worker, or someone who has needs or make demands, can get heavy. This is because there is no deep sense of connection with such persons. However, true friends don’t invoke such feelings. True friends are not "heavy."

Following, we will look at three characteristics of being a friend to others and best friends with Jesus:

1. True friends experience a high level of agreement.
2, True friends are mutually loyal and dependable. (Not just in "fair-weather")
3. True friends confide in one another and empower one another

Abraham was a friend of God: Isa. 41:8 “But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend.

James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

1. Friends experience a high level of agreement

15:9 As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

15 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

Friendship with Jesus comes out of our willingness to receive his love and abide in his love. He also stated if we keep his commandments, we will abide in his love. The decision to follow Jesus' commands and teachings is an act of agreement. We've decided that we don’t have anything better than with Jesus offers. We seek to trust in Jesus in the same manner in which Jesus trusted in father God.

Jesus makes the statement, “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” On the surface, this does not seem like a statement that friends would make. However, when friends are in agreement, they are very willing to do what is asked of them, realizing there is a mutual willingness to do so.

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (KJV)

The sense of the Hebrew text here is interesting. The word agreed is from a Hebrew word meaning "to fix, appoint, assemble, meet, set, betroth; to meet, to meet by appointment." The sense is not simply two people walking in a common direction because they agree to do so. It means agreeing to make an appointment to come together, and from there set out on a journey to a destination together. It is like saying to someone, "I’ll meet you at Starbucks and we can go to the restaurant from there."

The Revised Standard Version of the Bible captures the definition best: Amos 3:3 "Do two walk together, unless they have made an appointment?”

The focus of true friendship is not trying to agree on every single thing, but rather always being willing to come together in order to discover how to work together.

2. Friends are mutually loyal and dependable

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.

On the evening of his death, Jesus Christ described the need for loyalty, dependability and sacrifice as a component of our friendship with him. Speaking to his disciples Jesus said: John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

He then defines the greatest love in which one will lay his life down for his friends. Jesus was talking about His sacrifice. We should understand that laying one’s life down in death is not the only way to understand the meaning of true friendship. In fact, if we cannot lay our life down for one another while we live, it is unlikely that we will die for someone.

The sense of this text is that you will do for your friends what you would not do for others. There’s nothing too hard, nothing to bothersome, nothing too much for a true friend. In that sense, married couples should be friends, family members should be friends, believers in a local church should be friends. In this light, there is no greater relationship than friendship.

3. Friends confide in one another and empower one another

John 15:14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

Jesus does not relate to us as servants in His house, but as family members. As members of the family, we are invited to share in the knowledge of "family business" and participate fully. We are empowered to act, not only to take orders.

As friends with Abraham, God shared vital information/purpose with him. In doing so, God showed both His confidence in him and empowered him to serve divine purpose.

Genesis 18:17 The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves by him? 19 No, for I have chosen him, that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him." (RSV)

Christmas Giving

Like many others, our church is active in assisting people in need during the Christmas holiday season. Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than receive." (Acts 20:35)

Serving people in need helps us maintain perspective during the highly commercialized and fictionalized Christmas holiday. The best way to keep perspective is to remember that the first part of the word Christmas is Christ. Following His example and receiving the new life that God offers through Christ's self-sacrifice is the best gift of all.

Reciting "The Night Before Christmas" and inspiring children to have, "…visions of sugar-plums [dancing] in their heads…" imparts a happy feeling. However, those who know the power and goodness of the living Christ should strive to impart something much more tangible.

God bless all of you who are reaching out to others this Christmas season in the name of the Lord!

More Than Mighty!

In 2008, greed coupled with irresponsible lending and investing led to the greatest financial meltdown in the USA since the Great Depression.

In 2010, my mighty Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning are struggling to make the NFL playoffs after playing in the Super Bowl earlier this year.

For all time, our God has been and will be, the First and the Last. He is both present and coming to us every second of every day. He is never diminished in His ability and power.

Things and people in this world are only mighty for a season, but our God is ALMIGHTY in all seasons!

Jesus: The Promise Keeper

Matthew 4:13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 15 “ The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”

Jesus fulfills prophetic promises made by God the Father. The statement, "that it might be fulfilled," indicates an action taken by Jesus in direct fulfillment of some promise or purpose of Scripture. In this instance from Isaiah 9:2 , "…The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light…"

The need for this "light" to shine upon people in darkness was revealed in Isalah 8:19-20 (NLT), "Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? 20 Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark."

God saw the problems of His people, and all humanity, due to their own sin and willful ignorance. In His love and kindness, the Lord decided to address their (and our) problems with a promise:

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace there will beno end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

God's promised solution, then and now, is the same: Jesus Christ!

Today, we need to reflect that same light in shining on our generation who sit in darkness.

20th Annual Community Christmas Outreach

"I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)

We are thanking God for a fruitful season of ministry for our 20th Annual Community Christmas Outreach. We ask for His grace to empower our words and service. Pray for the Share Team as they finalize our list of individuals and families to help this year and purchase gifts and food for them. One the special things that we do for persons is to ask individuals what items they need and want for Christmas.

We thank God for the partnership of Lilly Endowment. Again this year, they have help to fund our outreach with NO RESTRICTIONS on sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in connection with our efforts!

We ask our members and friends to pray for individuals being ministered to this month at the Juvenile Center, Wheeler Mission and IPS Schools; Arlington Community High School and Louis B. Russell #48.

We will include both Bible-based literature and a special DVD with each gift. As we distribute gifts to both institutions and homes, we will take time to pray, share the Gospel and invite persons to our Christmas Celebration on Sunday, December 19 at 10:30am.

I appreciate the heart of love and service shown by New Covenant Church members. We are a church fully committed to fulfilling the Great Commission and reaching out to people all year long with the love and Gospel of Christ!
