DAY 5 - How to Have Clarity of Thought | Wisdom Becomes You October Devotional

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.

Clarity of thought follows committing your works and plans to the Lord. Good works bring good thoughts, because you were created by God to do good works. (Ephesians 2:10)

When we commit to Him, God takes responsibility for our success!
Sometimes, being unclear in your thinking is an indication that you are on the wrong track or have not fully committed your work to the Lord.

Reflection Question: What prevents you from making a full commitment to God?

DAY 4 - Simple vs. Prudent | Wisdom Becomes You October Devotional

Proverbs 14:15 A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.

We live in a world full of traps, tricks and trouble. God's promise is peace, power, and provision. The turning point is often found in our mindset, or more specifically to the level of prayerful and preparation thought we apply. As the proverb said, "A simple man believes anything." In this use of the word, "simple" means "naive; lacking in experience, wisdom, or judgment." Prudent means, "acting with or showing care and thought for the future."

Most traps, tricks, and trouble prey on simple or naive persons, or instances of the same in all of us. I can recall mistakes I've made for a lack of giving adequate thought to my steps. God's promise to you of His peace and power are always present. We only need to push past the "simple" and reach into "prudence."

The solution is simple: Walk in the second half of the verse and not in the first half.

Reflection Question: In what areas do your need to push past simple and into prudence?

DAY 3 - Guard Your Heart and Focus Forward | Wisdom Becomes You October Devotional

Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else,  for it determines the course of your life…25 Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. 27 Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

The cost of being constantly distracted from God's will is a price too high to pay. Verses 25-27 offer crystal clear guidance:

1) Focus forward
2) Mark out or chart your path through prayer and planning
3) Stay on good paths
4) Don't let people or circumstances pull you aside
5) Never follow evil.

Reflection Question: What distracts you?

DAY 2 - The Firm Foundation of the Fear of the Lord | Wisdom Becomes You October Devotional

Proverbs 1:7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

To fear the Lord is not being afraid of Him, like someone who is afraid of the police. The fear of the Lord is your desire not to displease Him. Pleasing God becomes your lifestyle..

When you decide to please the Lord in all your ways, you open yourself up to "true" knowledge. True knowledge comes from the Lord and is higher than man's knowledge. In reality, you lay a firm foundation in your life.  Not having a foundation is the problem with people who act foolishly. Wisdom and godly discipline are not attainable, because these virtues are developed on the firm foundation of the fear of the Lord.

Reflection Question: What areas of your life need adjustment, so that you can build on the firm foundation of true knowledge?

DAY 1 - Wisdom Has Friends | Wisdom Becomes You OctoberDevotional

Proverbs 8:12, “I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. 13 All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. 14 Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine.15 Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees.16 Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments. 17 I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me. 18 I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice. 19 My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! 20 I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. 21 Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries.”

Wisdom is not a singular virtue. Like a bountiful garden, the wisdom of God is filled with many virtues and benefits. Wisdom has many excellent “friends.”

Here, as in many other passages in Proverbs, wisdom is personified. Wisdom is speaking directly to the reader and clearly defining her assets. Giving wisdom a personality is God’s way of making the message both powerful and personal. Here’s a listing of wisdom’s friends from this passage:

1. Good judgment: Everyone has judgment. What is needed is “good” judgment.
2. Knowledge & discernment
3. Common sense
4. Success
5. Insight
6. Strength
7. Leadership ability
8. Riches
9. Enduring wealth
10. Honor
11. Justice
12. Wages (Paydays!)

Reflection Question: Which five “friends” of wisdom do you need now?
