Parable From Assembling a Bicycle

Wednesday, October 31, 2012 Bryan Hudson 0 Comments

God's pattern and plan for your life is something like instructions for assembling a bicycle. All the different parts and pieces do not make sense laying on the floor.

But if you look at the box showing the finished bicycle, follow the manufacturer instructions, and have the correct tools, you will most certainly be able to put together that new bicycle.

Your life has many parts, Sometimes things don't make sense on first glance, but you know God knows what He's doing. Trust him!

Proverbs 16:20, Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.

How God's Pattern Increases Your Harvest

2 Tim. 1:13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

God operates according to his Word. He provides us with a firm foundation and a pattern or plan for life and success. The Greek word for "pattern" is the word "typos." The word means: "A figure or words formed by a blow or impression. A teaching which embodies the sum and substance of faith."

When you discover God's pattern from His Word and through instruction from  the Word, the Holy Spirit imprints your heart and mind. You come to a strong, stable, and successful place in life.

Major patterns which need to be "impressed" into us include:

Evangelism/Social Action

Discover your unique purpose and pattern for life. Follow instructions, then watch your harvest increase!

Lev. 19:23 (NLT)  “When you enter the land and plant fruit trees, leave the fruit unharvested for the first three years and consider it forbidden. Do not eat it. 24 In the fourth year the entire crop must be consecrated to the Lord as a celebration of praise. 25 Finally, in the fifth year you may eat the fruit. If you follow this pattern, your harvest will increase. I am the Lord your God.

No Excuses

God knows how He wants to bless and use you. He also knows your weaknesses and has heard your excuses. Bottomline: God is not concerned about your inability because HIS ABILITY will always make the difference.

You say, "Lord, I don't know how I can do this." God says, "You will do it." So change your mind and agree with Him.

Jeremiah 1:4 The Lord gave me this message: 5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” 6 “O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” 7 The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.

Reach High! Dare to Make a Difference!

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen." (Gen. 22:14)

Visited a mountain and stood on the summit of 14,100 ft. Everything at high altitude is different, dangerous and beautiful. Reminded me of what it's like to have vision, purpose and daring to do something different in your generation.

A Great Prayer for Believers in Christ

Tuesday, October 09, 2012 Bryan Hudson 0 Comments

The Apostle Paul offered a great prayer for believers in Christ that we should also pray one for another:

Colossians 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;

Main points to this prayer:
  • Filled with the knowledge of God's will | God plans and purpose, not our own
  • Wisdom and spiritual understanding | Not just our own thoughts and opinions
  • Walk worthy of the Lord | Live up to God's standards
  • Fully pleasing God | Doing what He wants, not just what we want
  • Being fruitful in every good work | Working on a firm foundation and with the Body of Christ
  • Increasing in the knowledge of God | More focus on the heart and Word of God
  • Strengthened with all might | Empowered to serve and live holy
  • According to His glorious power | Filled with the Holy Spirit
  • Walking in patience and longsuffering | Never quitting or giving up
  • Everything done with the joy of the Lord (Jesus, Others, Yourself)

Put on the Whole Armor of God -- Everyone!

Ephesians 5:10, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Being fully clothed with the armor of God and being able to stand against the schemes of the devil, is not something that we do alone. A fully armed soldier charging a battlefield alone would become a suicide mission.

Paul spoke to "my brethren" of the Ephesian church. Together we stand! Together we are clothed with the character and power of Christ! Together we hold the shield of faith that stops the fiery darts, or the attacks, of the devil.

We are the army of the Lord! We serve and fight as one, and we help one another!

Guarding Against "Unwise-ness"

Ephesians 5:17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit

Understanding is your guard against "unwise-ness." Being filled with the Spirit of God leaves no room for bad influences. The New Testament Greek word for "understanding" means, "To set or bring to together. To put perception with the thing perceived." Good understanding requires holding the right things in mind. GIGO ("Garbage In Garbage Out") is a computer data entry term. If bad data goes in, it will be impossible to get good output.

Knowing God's will is not a mystery. Good inputs such as prayer, reading/doing the Word, walking in love and forgiveness, and having a teachable spirit will always produce the output of understanding the will of the Lord.

Reach High, Dig Deep

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory." ~ Romans 5:2 (NLT)

2 Thessalonians 3:3, Yet the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and set you on a firm foundation... Amplified

For the month of September 2012, I have been teaching and preaching on the theme “Benefits of a Firm Foundation.” These messages are available at my iTunes Podcast.

Romans 10:17 states, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” The more I study the principle of foundation, the more I recognize our dependence upon the finished work of Christ. There are no new foundations in the Kingdom. There is only the foundation of Jesus Christ. We also rely on the word of God and the work of apostles of Christ such as Paul who laid the foundation for the New Testament church.

1 Cor. 3:10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

We’ve all seen great bridges and tall buildings that we call “skyscrapers.” We marvel at the scale and height of these structures, but we also understand that tall buildings require deep and strong foundations. Builders must dig deep to lay foundations.

This principle was never more true or needful that when we consider our lives as believers and our work together as the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing of eternal significance can be accomplished without the benefit a firm foundation. It is not just a matter of size and scale, it is also a matter of quality and endurance.

In Luke Chapter Six Jesus told a parable of two houses that were built, which looked identical. It took a storm to reveal that one house was founded on a rock, while the other house was built on the ground without a foundation. The two men who built their houses had two things in common: 1) They both came to Jesus and, 2) they both heard what he said.  They wanted to "reach high."

But there was a third factor that made all the difference: Doing what Jesus said.  One house stood and the other fell because one man acted on Jesus’ instructions, while the other did not. Without digging deep in order to connect to foundation, there is no reaching high.

Loving God, obeying the Scriptures, learning kingdom principles, following good patterns and examples, living in community rather than isolation, serving others, and functioning under loving authority, are all normal behaviors for believers who are building on a firm foundation.

The greatest benefit to living and building on firm foundations is the opportunity for everyone of us to become a part of something far greater than “a ministry,” or “a church.” We can become a “holy temple” in the earth and a “dwelling place” of God’s presence to our generation!
