“Consider Your Ways”

Haggai 1:1 In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 2 “Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.' ” 3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this [a]temple to lie in ruins?” 5 Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!

Haggai 2:1-9, In the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying: 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying: 3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes as nothing? 4 Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the Lord; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the Lord of hosts. 5 ‘According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear!’ 6 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this [d]temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. 8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. 9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

“I Am By Grace”

1 Corinthians 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Matters of the Heart: Let Peace Be Your Umpire

Sunday, September 13, 2026 Bryan Hudson 0 Comments

Colossians 3:15, And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Matters of the Heart: Let Peace Be Your Umpire teaches that the condition of the heart shapes the direction of our lives. Rather than allowing hurt, fear, disappointment, or other emotions to make the final call, believers are called to let the peace of God rule, like an umpire, guiding our thoughts, decisions, and responses through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

Closing Confession of Faith

I will allow the peace of God to rule my heart. Peace will be my umpire. Peace will decide what I will do or not do

When I am facing a challenge, I won't try to reason my way around it without the help of the Holy Spirit and Scripture. As a matter of the heart, I will go to the heart level to address things that I don't fully understand.

God is Spirit, so I must worship and live through him in spirit and in truth.

According to 1 Thessalonians 5:23, I will allow the God of peace to sanctify me completely so that my whole spirit, soul, and body will be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I will live, according to the order of spirit, soul, body. Not the reverse order of body, soul, spirit.

Peace will govern my heart and mind, not mindsets and emotions such as hurt, trauma, disappointment, things that have not worked as I expected, envy, unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, and entitlement.

Jesus Gives the Peace That Umpires my life

I agree with what He said in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you"

Psalms 84:5-7, Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength, each one appears before God in Zion.

This Scripture text presents the believer’s life as a pilgrimage of purpose, not merely a journey of personal experience. Our strength comes from God, and even when we pass through difficult “Valleys of Baca,” He enables us to turn those hard places into sources of strength for ourselves and others. To go “from strength to strength” means more than receiving greater strength personally—it means using what God has given us to strengthen those who come behind us. A traveler seeks experiences; a pilgrim seeks purpose, service, and legacy. Ultimately, the Christian pilgrimage is about following God’s will, blessing others, and leaving something within people, with Jesus Christ as our supreme example.

CONFESSION OF FAITH

I am a Pilgrim, not only a traveler. My heart is set on pilgrimage, moving with purpose to places of purpose, service, communion, and fulfillment of the will of God.  I do not travel alone, but within covenant community.

I am not a traveler who seeks satisfaction in the moment. I am a pilgrim whose heart seeks purpose for a lifetime.  Pilgrimage is a long journey of purpose. It is not only a destination, but a journey.

When moving through a valley of Baca, God helps me transform the difficulty into a resource for others.

By the grace of God, I go from strength to strength, not only gaining more strength for myself, but creating springs and pools as resources that add strength to others.

As a pilgrim, I move with purpose to leave a legacy. Legacy is more than inheritance. An inheritance is what we leave to people. A legacy is what we leave within people.

My example is the pilgrimage of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who makes every good thing possible.

“Liberty vs. Responsibility”

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. (1 Corinthians 10:23-24)
